Community Outreach - Philanthropic Programs
Togs for Tots
Infants and toddlers of families who are identified as having a demonstrable need by community agencies are provided new clothing, a "Watch Me Grow" developmental booklet, a personal grooming kit, and an age appropriate book. Volunteers purchase, sew and fill requests for clothing for children from newborn through age five, who live in the San Antonio area. In 2006-2007, 5,674 children were served through 27 community agencies. Ninety-nine volunteers donated 3,871 hours to this program. From June 2007 through December 2007, 2,845 children have received clothing through the volunteer efforts of ninety-five members, who have devoted 2,553 hours to ensure the success of this program.
The Express-News recently featured the Togs for Tots program in a series of articles entitled "The Gift of Sharing". Togs for Tots has also received the Express-News Sweepstakes Award in 1989, the JC Penny Golden Rule Merit Award in 1996 and the Any Baby Can "Angel" Award in 1999.
