Community Outreach - Philanthropic Programs
Adopt-A-Resident
The ALSA Adopt-A-Resident program was established to promote self esteem and to offer frequent companionship, friendship and assistance to senior citizens in keeping with the mission and vision statements of the Assistance League® of San Antonio.
Our partners in this endeavor are the Morningside Ministries, Chandler Assisted Living, and Chandler Healthcare (nursing home). We have had the pleasure of developing one-on-one relationships with over 50 residents this year. As an affirmation of the effectiveness of this program, Adopt-A-Resident received the 2005 Texas Volunteer Program of the Year award for an organization that serves an identified group.
Birthday parties are hosted on a monthly basis for the Chandler Assisted Living residents. Each party has a special theme, and along with the refreshments and special activities, residents receive hats made by our C.A.P.S. Program.
In addition to the birthday parties, weekly game days and exercise days are enjoyed by both the residents and our members who participate in these activities. Chandler's wonderful residents become our dear friends whom we grow to love and cherish.
An Old English proverb says it best, "The older the fiddler, the sweeter the tune."
